Subramaniapuram is about what love can do to a group of happy-go-lucky friends is the crux. The highlight is that the entire movie unfolds in the early 1980s. In a nutshell, the movie is the autobiography of five youths, who live in Subramaniapuram. The sets have been carefully erected to suit the period. Intense research has been done and the costumes, which were famous during those days, have been recreated. Jay, who shot to fame with Chennai 600028, plays the lead role, while Ganja Karuppu and directors Sasi Kumar and Samuthirakani play pivotal roles.
Tollywood actress Swathi is the heroine. Musician-turned-television anchor James Vasanthan has scored the music. Producing and directing Subramaniapuram, a retro classic set in Madurai, Sasikumar had had his guidance under the auspices of directors Bala and Ameer. Sasikumar plays a cameo in the movie. He said that he did it just because the script demanded it. He took up the role as he met the requirements of the character. The songs of this film are really excellent and very soothing to listen.
