The Hindi film The Dirty Picture was based on the life of the late South Indian actress Silk Smitha. Vidhya Balan had donned the role of Silk Smitha. This film was a great hit and yielded good profits.

Vidhya Balan also got the National Award for her best acting in this film. There were lots of hurdles in releasing this film but it somehow managed to reach the theatres.
Silk Smitha’s family members approached the Court in connection with banning of this film. There were lots of protests from various organizations because Vidhya Balan had acted very glamorously. Finally the Court permitted the release of this film. Since there was a great reception for this film, the producers have decided to remake this film in various languages. This film is to be remade in Tamil and Telugu languages. Various actresses are being considered for the role of Silk Smitha. Anushka, Nikitha and Richa were also considered. Finally it is understood that the producers have zeroed on Nayanthara. It is expected that very soon she will sign the agreement. She has demanded more salary for this film since she has to act very glamorously. The producers have also agreed for this.
