Perumal – Clichéd Masala with mediocre

Direction: Vincent Selva

Star-casts: Sundar C, Meenakshi, Namitha, Vivek, Kota Srinivasa Rao and others

Music: Srikanth Deva

Lots of releases for this weekend and it's all about bag of mixed results… Sundar C has been striking gold in box office with his clichéd masala stuffs.

Yeah! You don't have anything special and unusual from his previous films. This is a film about a carefree youth saving a righteous person from the clutches of baddies, fighting against injustice and winning the best. It's loaded with more commercial factors of comedy, action, romance, glamour and emotions. Perhaps, everything sans a solid substance wouldn't work all the time.

Perumal (Sundar C), a driver from Travel Company takes him to Andhra Pradesh. Over there he finds an innocent girl Alamu (Meenakshi) running for her life… Perumal saves her from the baddies and takes her back to Chennai. It’s revealed that Venkaiah (Kota Srinivasa Rao), owner of a leading pharmaceutical company is involved in manufacturing fake drugs that costs hundreds of innocent lives in Government Hospital.

As Alamu reports to her chief doctor, Venkaiah murders him. Alamu records the incident on her mobile phone, which takes story through the journey of topsy-turvy. How Perumal keeps her safely and gets the things settled forms crux of the story.

Sundar C hasn't done anything special from his previous films. Namitha as his ladylove appears with sultry costumes and what else can you expect from Namitha.  Vivek together with Sundar C tickle your ribs with best comedy tracks.

Kota Srinivasa Rao with his same tone and pronunciation doesn't really scare you being a villain; he is more of a “funny villain”.  Hello Directors!!! Try something new out of him and he's a great actor.

Srikanth Deva's musical score is below average while cinematography Banu Murugan is above average.

As a whole, Perumal with lots of commercial masala elements would have worked out if there was a solid script and screenplay. Blame it on Vincent Selva and this is film meant for C centres…

 Verdict: Watch it once.

Rating: **
