Every year the Tamil Nadu State Government gives awards for the best actress, actresses and technical crew. Few days back the awards for the year 2007 and 2008 was announced.

The award function was held at Chennai University Centenary Auditorium yesterday evening. The whole cinema fraternity participated in this function. In the beginning of the function there was cultural programme. Play back singers Srinivas, Belly Raj, Chinmayee and Mahati sang the songs.

Harris Jayaraj was in charge of music. Actress Poorna, Mumtaz, Namitha and Meenakshi danced with choreographer Kala troupe. Actor Vadivelu sang a song in praise of Chief Minister Karunanidhi. Actor M S Bhaskar sang the old song Chittram Pesudhadi.

After this the awards function began. Chief Minister Karunanidhi participated in this function and distributed the awards. For the year 2007, Rajnikanth and Jyothika were given the best actor and actress award. Similarly for the year 2008, Kamal Haasan and Sneha were given the best actor and actresses. There was a great applause among the audience when Kamal and Rajni received the audience.

The best dialogue writer award for the year 2008 was bagged by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. All the actors, actresses and technical crew including Kamal and Rajni distributed this award jointly to him. All the audience gave standing ovation when the Chief Minister received the award. Rajni and Kamal spoke after the distribution of awards. After this Chief Minister spoke.
